THE DOT
The students in First Grade have been reading the book, "The Dot," by Peter H. Reynolds. This wonderfully illustrated book inspires creativity in children. In the story, a girl named Vashti, is convinced that she "CAN'T DRAW," and sits in art class with an empty piece of paper in front of her. Her teacher encourages her by saying, "Just make a mark and see where it takes you." Vashti makes a dot on her paper. The next day, she decides she can make a better dot, and begins to explore her creativity by painting dots of different colors and sizes. She realized she could draw, and discovers a new passion.
This book encourages children to try new things, to explore their creativity and to have confidence in their abilities!
